Why is everyone obsessed with avocados?

Baked Avocado Eggs

Have you noticed everyone around you is eating avocados? Avocados have skyrocketed in popularity in the past couple of years, becoming one of our favourite ways to eat green! Avocados are actually fruit—technically, large berries—that pack a whole lot of nutritional value and health benefits in their creamy green flesh.

The latest study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, found that avocados can lower bad cholesterol in those who are overweight or obese. Previous research has found that avocado consumption is linked to fewer risk factors for heart disease and strokes, and their high potassium content could help keep blood pressure in check.

Avocados are full of fat, but it’s the good, monounsaturated kind, which combats high cholesterol and heart disease. Avocados are also rich in vitamin C, vitamin K and folate, and a single avocado contains a whopping 10 grams of fibre.

How can you get more avocado in your diet? There’s hardly a meal where they don’t belong!

-Add them to smoothies for a creamy morning green drink.

-Bake an egg inside for a filling and nutritious breakfast, like this Baked Avocado Eggs recipe (pictured above).

-Spread an avocado on toast for a lunch or snack.

-Make avocados into a delicious chilled soup.

 -Add them to salads.
