If you’re a mother, I hope you’re surrounded by peace and quiet while reading this and that the sun is shining as brightly on you as it is here. Happy Mother’s Day!
We’re headed for a drive in the country, a small hike and a picnic. It’s always been my preferred celebration mode – putting as much distance between myself and the laundry piles. Okay, it’s also a beautiful time of year to be out in nature.
Here’s what caught my eye around the web this week:

We celebrated spring with a coconut tres leches cake decorated with cinnamon whipped cream and the season’s first blooms.
Clara’s been loving our daily outings and the absence of snow.”Outside! Outside!” she cries until we don our rain boots and traipse out to pick ramps.
I couldn’t be happier that spring salads are back for week-day lunches. In a few weeks, we should have our own eggs. We’ve got six lovely brown hens back in the coop (pictured at the top of the post).
Noah made his very first icebox cake for our last Sunday dinner. It tastes like summer. I wanted to top it with strawberries, but until they are local, they just don’t taste like real berries.
This book
Adder’s Tongue grow wild on the forest floor, their delicate yellow blooms adding splotches of colour amid the brown leaves. We don’t pick them, as they wilt so quickly.
Cornmeal is still a frequent request for breakfast from my boys. We’ve been eating it polenta-style, quite thick, with a pour of maple syrup over the top and a pat of butter. I like adding roasted strawberries from my dwindling freezer stash, too.
Yesterday was the first day it felt hot. We celebrated with ice cream downtown and a trip to the MMFA.
