It’s a long weekend and you can find us outside where we are both constructing and deconstructing. This is the summer we are replacing our old rotting deck, and so we are ripping up boards and hauling them away today.
I’m also planting the last of my garden, as per May long weekend tradition, and the kids are passing a soccer ball halfway between the deck and the garden. I’m thinking the first batch of popsicles are an order for the day.
Here’s what I loved eating and reading this week.
- Eggs benedict and asparagus breakfast skillet :: Kitchen Simplicity ~ Cheri is always so creative and brunch is her specialty.
- Cheddar Buttermilk Waffle BLT Sandwiches :: Joy the Baker ~ Gracious me.
- Stalking Rhubarb :: Punk Domestics ~ A round-up of all things rhubarb, pickles, curd, fruit leather, jelly, compote…everything.
- Coconut Date Shake :: Not Without Salt ~ Clara and I have enjoyed this more than once with our weekday lunches.
- Ramp & white bean fritters with sriracha-marmalade sauce :: Local Kitchen ~ Can’t wait to try these delicate morsels.
- The Art of the Road Trip :: FEAST ON via Food Bloggers of Canada ~ YES! Just a great read. And now I want to road trip.
Hit the jump for my favourite photos of the week!
Spring was prominent in this week’s batch of photos. The leaves on the trees seem to have exploded almost overnight thanks to a few hot days.
Monday’s lunch was made up of mostly all homegrown or forage delicacies. It might look like rabbit food, but it was my healthy start to the week.
We ended up here on Mother’s Day and were treated with one of the most beautiful days of the year. Our little ones trekked several kilometeres and did so great.
Our Mother’s Day picnic to fuel all the trekking. I didn’t cook any of it, so that was a treat!
It was time to assess the jar situation as we head into canning season. Anything with cracks or nicks gets recycled.
Our backyard is so green all of a sudden. Clara likes to go out in her pajamas first thing in the morning and greet the chickens.
I like to head into a holiday weekend with a clean refrigerator. It makes me feel organized – at least in one area!
Another excellent salad – the summer slaw!
And finally, the deck demolition. Here’ the boys are keeping busy playing Kubb, our new favourite backyard game. It’s easy to set-up and quick to learn.
Have a beautiful weekend, all!
