We had family staying with us for the better part of last week and then we all skipped town for a family wedding on the weekend. I’m trying to catch up now, as another busy week looms ahead.
Life will resume a normal pace eventually, right? Somedays I’m not so sure.
Hey, we have two winners for our cookbook giveaway! Congratulations to Ray and Rachel! You’ve both been notified via email and your copies of Michael Smith’s Family Meals will be mailed out shortly. A big thank you to all who entered the giveaway.
Here’s what I loved reading this week:
- Blackberry Basil Crumble :: Stetted
- Raspberry Cream Country Cake :: Family Bites
- Potato Salad with Pickles :: Food in Jars
- BLT Pizza :: Cook Like a Champion
- Lemon Balm Watermelon Green Iced Tea :: Food for My Family
- Healthy Chai Spiced Sweet Potato Granola :: Some the Wiser
And now onto my favourite photos: Fruit galettes, Quebec City vista and Danny in a tux…
Harvest Corn Chowder is back on the weeknight dinner menu. Chock full of fresh garden herbs and served with a salad and baguette, it’s no wonder this is one of our favourite summer soups. I added black beans to this batch; it’s a customizable recipe.
I made side-by-side galettes for our guests, with strawberry and peach duelling it out for the favourite. It seems we’re not the only ones who love a simple summer galette; this image garnered the most Likes on any Instagram photo I’ve ever posted!
Update: strawberry was the winner. Our peaches just are not sweet enough yet.
We slipped into Finnegan’s flea market recently to scout for a vintage sink and a few other items. I couldn’t help but photograph this stunning display of vintage Pyrex. Do you have a collection? I don’t but now I’m thinking I need to collect a set. What’s your favourite?
Phase 2 of our deck reno happened last week and I baked these Wild Blueberry Oat Muffins for the construction guys. It’s merely the best muffin recipe ever, with orange zest and blueberries as add-ins; perfect for featuring local berries.
This is how I like to eat in the summer: roast chicken (this one was purchased), simple boiled potatoes and corn, fresh picked vegetables with this Tangy Avocado Dressing. Assemble and serve.
Put Quebec City on your list of places to see. It’s an accessible Europe, meaning it has the feel of a city in France, but it is not quite so far. We enjoyed walking around the old city and the view from the citadel. Must return again soon.
We were in Quebec City for the wedding of Danny’s brother. We managed to ditch our country Crocs and Birkenstocks for the day and spruce up for the event. Those boys are going to be as tall as I am soon. Crazy.
And that was a peek at our week!
Here’s hoping the week ahead is wonderful!
